The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation (PHSF) is pleased to announce that Pete Zervakis, a Multimedia Journalist for the ABC affiliate, WKOW -TV in Madison, Wisconsin will be the Emcee at the June 14, 2014 Awards Ceremony and Gala. Pete, originally from Darien, Illinois, is a past PanHellenic Scholarship recipient who graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with highest honors. Prior to making the move to Madison, Pete was a Multimedia Journalist/Weekend Anchor at WXOW- TV in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

“We are delighted that Pete will be this year's Emcee.  Since his graduation, he has distinguished himself as an outstanding journalist with great potential. Pete personifies how our scholarship recipients excel to not only have successful careers, but also to be meaningful contributors to society and remain faithful to their Hellenic heritage. As our own product, we are proud to have Pete be a part of this year's event ” says Chris P. Tomaras, Chairman and Founder of the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation.

Pete began his broadcasting career at the U of I as a student reporter and anchor for the university's cable television station. He also reported for both the sports and features desks at The Daily Illini, an independent student-run newspaper.  Pete covered the Fighting Illini varsity baseball and football teams before serving as the paper's first ever health and wellness columnist.

Since moving north, Pete has covered the campaign stops of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, as well as Governor Scott Walker's historic recall election and subsequent victory.  His reporting has been honored by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and the State Bar of Wisconsin, which awarded Pete a Golden Gavel Certificate of Commendation for his television coverage of the Eric Koula double murder trial.

"To have the opportunity to Emcee this year's PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation Awards Ceremony and Gala is a tremendous honor and privilege," Zervakis said. "The work the Foundation does is incredible.  I look forward to playing a part in honoring some of America's brightest Greek American students," he added.

When not covering a breaking news story, Pete enjoys working out and cheering on his favorite sports teams, especially English Premier League soccer squad Chelsea FC. His co-workers and friends also consider him to be the most fanatic supporter of the Greek National Soccer Team in the entire state of Wisconsin.  Pete also likes reading political news and history books, and is fascinated by Alexander the Great. Pete Zervakis has maintained strong ties to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Homer Glen, his home parish as well as the Greek communities of Wisconsin and the Chicago area.

The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation expresses its appreciation to Pete Zervakis in accepting the invitation to be the Gala's Emcee.  Please plan on joining Pete and the members of the PHSF for the Annual Awards Ceremony and Gala, “Challenging Times to Meaningful Lives”, Saturday, June 14, 2014, Hilton Chicago.  More information about the event will be forthcoming, so please stay tuned.
