The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation is now accepting applications for Hellenic Birthright

A life changing opportunity for Greek American youth

The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation is proud to offer for a second consecutive year our Hellenic Birthright program, a cultural enrichment and immersive educational experience for Greek American college students who have never been to Greece.

Hellenic Birthright connects American students of Hellenic descent with their ancestral homeland through uniquely tailored cultural and educational activities that blend academics, art, architecture, and history. Additionally, students broaden their education through accredited college courses taught by highly qualified faculty, as they experience everyday life in Greece for five amazing weeks.

Hellenic Birthright was launched in collaboration with Anatolia College and their school of higher studies, the American College of Thessaloniki (ACT).  This 5-week program takes place between June 17 - July 22, 2013 and students will receive up to 4 transferable college credits.

Last summer, 14 lucky students embarked on the journey of a lifetime and were forever changed by what they experienced in Greece.  The feedback received from our inaugural participants inspired the Foundation to sponsor even more students this year.  The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation will underwrite the study abroad expenses for 20 students to take part in Hellenic Birthright 2013. Sponsored students will only be responsible for their airfare, health insurance and incidental expenses.  Applicants who don't qualify may also join the program at their own expense.

In addition to a 3-credit course examining The World of Alexander the Great,  our partners at ACT have developed a 1-credit Museum Practicum.  This applied study will give participants a 360 view of history, connecting ancient Greek archaeology in Museums, with lessons learned in the classroom and on-site.

Students will participate in multiple day and overnight excursions, visiting such historical sites as Thessaloniki's White Tower, Vergina and Pella to retrace the legacy of Alexander the Great, as well as the Acropolis and award-winning new Acropolis Museum.  Participants will also experience the cities of Athens, Delphi, Troy, and many more.  In addition, the Foundation is proud to offer a new component to this year's itinerary, which includes the beautiful and historic city of Istanbul, and a visit to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
