BABIS TSERTOS TO PERFORM AT 2014 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS GALA

The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce that award winning singer and bouzouki player Haralambos “Babis” Tsertos will be the featured entertainer at the upcoming Scholarship Awards Gala taking place on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Hilton Chicago.

Babis Tsertos was born and raised in Tropaia, Arcadia, where he grew up in a very musical family.  His father was a mandolin player, and sister Nadia Karagianni is a singer.  He moved to Athens at the age of 17 where he eventually joined the faculty at The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.  Over the years he has worked with many gifted artists, singers and composers, including Glykeria, Giorgos Dalaras, Sotiria Bellou, Manolis Mitsias, Vicky Moscholiou, Stelios Vamvakaris, and many more.

“I consider this invitation to perform at the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation's 2014 Awards Gala a very special honor.  I look forward to creating a celebratory atmosphere for all of the guests in attendance and, of course, the amazing and talented scholarship award recipients,”  said Babis Tsertos.

Babis' music has been featured on television, in film and in theatrical performances.   In 2002, he won the award for best rebetiko singer at the Corfu Awards, and the award for best folk album and best traditional album at the 2003 Arion Awards.  Babis Tsertos is excited to perform at the Scholarship Awards Gala, and will be joined by his talented son Yanni on the piano.

“I am extremely happy to have Babis Tsertos as our star entertainer at our event” said Founder and Chairman of the Foundation, Chris Tomaras.  I have the highest admiration for him regarding his talent, his connection with the audience while performing, and for his unparalleled ability to deliver any type of song from his endless repertoire. Our audience will love him,” added Tomaras.

Accompanying Babis Tsertos will be Chicago's own Hellenic Five orchestra.  The Hellenic Five have been delighting audiences for over 30 years.  They specialize in all styles of Greek music, and their extensive repertoire includes traditional folk music to the contemporary music heard in Athens today.  The Hellenic Five will also be joined by the talented Eftihia Papageorgiou.
